The Valley of Discomfort

Distribution is the cheat code to building a business. Time and time again we’ve seen influencers, famous athletes, and other celebrities build multi-million dollar companies seemingly overnight, just because they have an audience of people that are willing to buy things that they make or that are associated with them.

As someone that is building a business, it’s easy to see the value in having an audience and in creating organic social content on topics relevant to your business. That said, doing so is easier said than done.

Yes, it’s a surprising amount of work to create content (apologies to all the content creators I’ve judged in the past for thinking it’s easy), but that’s not what I’m referring to. The hardest part of creating content, for me at least, is becoming comfortable with putting yourself out there. It’s hard. Harder than I expected it to be.

I am not a social media person. The past 5 years or so, I’ve pretty much only posted on Instagram for my anniversary, which is basically a legal requirement. Going from zero to posting photos / videos related to working out and chasing my dream of building my own business makes me more uncomfortable than I can describe to you.

You might think it’s cringe; that’s because it is. I promise, nobody thinks it’s more cringe than I do. But how dumb would I have to be to let a little discomfort lower my chances of success?

The most successful people don’t shy away from something just because it’s uncomfortable. They ignore those who mock them and think they’re wasting their time. They focus on their goals and do what needs to be done. Traveling through the valley of discomfort can be a long, arduous process, but when you reach the other side, you inspire envy, not mockery. So, embrace the discomfort, push through the challenges, and let your success be the final word.

See you on the other side.
